What Bedding Costs in Vietnam: The Four Price Tiers, and What Each One Buys

Nội dung bài viết

Converting Vietnamese prices into your home currency tells you almost nothing. What tells you something is where a price sits on the local ladder. Here are the four tiers of the Vietnamese bedding market, and what the extra money actually buys at each step.

A cooling bedding set in Ho Chi Minh City can cost 200,000 đồng or nine million đồng. That is a forty-fold spread for products that use the same word on the label. If you have just moved here, you have no reference point for which end is the bargain and which end is the trap.

Most newcomers solve this by converting to dollars, euros or won and comparing to what they paid at home. That comparison misleads in both directions: labour and retail rents are lower here, while imported synthetic textiles are not much cheaper than anywhere else.

Tier one: 100,000 – 300,000 đồng

Market stalls and online marketplaces. Mostly printed polyester, sold on pattern rather than on fibre. One season of use; after a few washes the surface pills and the fit goes loose.

There is nothing wrong with this tier if you need something for a guest room, or for a rental you are leaving in six months.

Tier two: 400,000 – 800,000 đồng

Here you start finding imported goods with a real fibre stated on the label — usually nylon, which is the same thing as polyamide. The fabric is genuine and it does feel cool.

Two things to check before you celebrate. First, most items at this tier are covers rather than filled quilts — the price looks low because there is nothing inside. Second, the common size is 150 × 210 cm, which is narrower than a Vietnamese double bed. If you are buying for a bed here, measure first.

Tier three: 2 – 3 million đồng

Complete sets made from heat-conducting synthetic fibre, cut to the bed sizes people actually own in Vietnam. This is where Judy Drap sits — the upper-middle of the local market, not the street-market end and not the top end.

A full set at this tier means a fitted quilted sheet, two pillowcases, a bolster case and a filled quilt. Compare that against a single cover from tier two and the gap narrows fast.

Tier four: 5 – 9 million đồng

The top of the Vietnamese market, usually sold in shopping-mall boutiques. And here is the detail almost nobody points out: nearly everything at this tier is cotton — cotton sateen, Egyptian cotton, sometimes silk.

Cotton is a fine fibre. It absorbs sweat well and it feels honest against the skin. But cotton does not conduct heat away. Spend nine million at this tier and you are buying durability and finish, not the cool-to-the-touch feeling you were probably shopping for in a tropical city.

Where the extra money goes

Into the fibre. This part is worth paying for. Polyester costs far less than polyamide and the two look identical to the eye. Only a third-party laboratory report tells you which one you are holding — our own report and how to read it are in reading a Vietnamese bedding label →

Into the amount of fabric. Obvious once said, easy to miss while shopping. A 150 × 210 cm piece next to a 200 × 230 cm piece is roughly half the area. Two items in the same fabric can differ in price simply because one is smaller.

Into the seller's floor space. A mall unit costs rent every month, plus staff at the counter and display fittings. That cost is inside the price you pay, and it does not make the sheet one degree cooler.

Why we sell below the top tier

You should ask this of anyone claiming good goods at a soft price, so we will answer before you have to ask.

We are a warehouse that sells online and on site. We have no mall unit, so that rent is not in the price. The fabric is still polyamide blended with spandex: the Quatest 3 report for our batch states 86.6% polyamide and 13.4% spandex, with two further lines showing 22 groups of aromatic amines and formaldehyde both not detected. The report is published in full, including the items it does not test.

To be complete: that report confirms fibre composition and chemical safety. It does not certify coolness. We have published no cooling figure of our own, and the reason is in what cooling bedding actually does →

When this tier is the wrong choice for you

If you are here on a one-year posting and furnishing a rental you will hand back, the few-hundred-thousand tier is the sensible answer. Buy the cheap set and spend the difference elsewhere.

If you like changing bedding with the seasons, also skip this tier. Goods here are built to be kept, and keeping them is how the price makes sense.

If you sleep with air conditioning every night and you intend to stay, two million đồng is the most reasonable entry point this market offers.

Not ready to spend two million? Start with a single filled quilt in the same fabric for under half that. Or message us for a fabric swatch — a few seconds on the inside of your wrist settles the question better than any paragraph we could write. We are at 169/36 Lương Định Của, An Khánh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, open 10:30 – 17:30, closed Sundays.
